A Proclamation

Whereas, we honor the more than 3 million Americans who served in the Vietnam War and pay tribute to those who lost their lives due to the conflict, and we reaffirm our dedication to showing a generation of veterans the respect and support of a grateful nation, and

Whereas, Americans from every corner of our nation reported for duty during the Vietnam War, and we are grateful for their services and their sacrifices; and

Whereas, thousands of servicemembers returned home from the conflict, burdened by visible scars as well as the invisible wounds of post-traumatic stress and Agent Orange exposure, and

Whereas, we bear witness to the more than 58,000 names etched into two faces of black granite in our nation’s capital, a lasting memorial to those who bore conflict's greatest cost; and

Whereas, today we reaffirm one of our most fundamental obligations - to show all who have worn the uniform of the United States the respect and dignity they deserve and to honor their sacrifice by serving them as well as they served us; and

Whereas, the State of North Carolina and the North Carolina Department of Military and Veterans Affairs are grateful for the strength and service of our Vietnam veterans, and we honor their proud legacy with our deepest appreciation;

Now, Therefore, I, Josh Stein, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim March 29, 2025, as “Vietnam Veterans Day” in North Carolina, and commend its observance to all citizens.

In Witness Whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and affixed the Great Seal of the State of North Carolina at the Capitol in Raleigh this twenty-sixth day of February in the year of our Lord two thousand and twenty-fifth and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and forty-ninth.
