Work Zone Awareness Week

2025

By The Governor Of The State Of North Carolina

A Proclamation

Whereas, road workers play a critical role in improving North Carolina's infrastructure and supporting economic development; and,

Whereas, in North Carolina, there were 217 people killed in 39,919 crashes on our roadway work zones between 2019 and 2024; and,

Whereas, in 2024, 47 people were killed in North Carolina work zones, including two workers, eight pedestrians, and 37 motorists; and,

Whereas, the state of North Carolina is dedicated to enhancing work zone safety for the road workers, public safety officials, and the traveling public; and,

Whereas, safety on our roads is a shared responsibility, and all citizens must do their part in keeping our roads safe; and,

Whereas, the N.C. Department of Transportation has a dedicated program to educate citizens on work zone safety; and,

Whereas, to reduce fatalities and injuries, the state of North Carolina encourages everyone to educate themselves about  dangers associated with work zones; to respect work zone signs, flaggers and warnings; stay alert; turn on your headlights; do not tailgate; stay in one lane; do not drive distracted; obey posted speed limits; watch for workers; exercise patience; expect the unexpected; and understand that everyone plays a role in work zone safety;

Now, Therefore, I, Josh Stein, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim April 2025, as “Work Zone Awareness Month" and April 21-25, 2025, as "Work Zone Awareness Week” in North Carolina, and commend their observance to all citizens.

In Witness Whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and affixed the Great Seal of the State of North Carolina at the Capitol in Raleigh this twenty-fifth day of March in the year of our Lord two thousand and twenty-fifth and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and forty-ninth.
