WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT PROFESSIONALS MONTH

2024

BY THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA

A PROCLAMATION

WHEREAS, North Carolina’s “First in Talent” strategic economic development plan underscores the importance of preparing the workforce for career and entrepreneurial success, with the strong connection between workforce development and economic growth driving out state’s unprecedented success and recognition for its business climate; and

WHEREAS, workforce development professionals connect North Carolinians to good jobs and help them become successful, productive workers, while helping employers find new employees, train the employees they have, and develop strong, diverse talent pipelines for growing industries such as clean energy; and

WHEREAS, workforce development professionals play an integral role in recruiting and training future workers for in-demand jobs and industries, including 76,008 more workers in the Health Care & Social Assistance sector, 22,246 more workers in the Manufacturing sector, and 20,997 more workers in the Construction sector expected to be employed in 2030, as compared to employment in those sectors in 2021; and

WHEREAS, workforce development professionals promote the upskilling and reskilling of North Carolina workers so that they can fill a growing number of jobs for employers, while also fostering inclusive opportunities that ensure access and representation for all individuals; and

WHEREAS, the NC Job Ready initiative focuses on workforce development and is built on three core principles: skills and education attainment, employer leadership, and local innovation; and

WHEREAS, workforce development professionals are key to reaching out goal of 2 million North Carolinians aged 25-44 with a post secondary degree or credential by 2030, and as 2024 marks the “Year of Public Schools,” continued investment in public education is vital to preparing tomorrow’s workforce; and

WHEREAS, workforce development professionals serve within the NCWorks system, which includes the North Carolina Department of Commerce, local Workforce Development Boards, community colleges, public schools, and other organizations, strengthening our state through their expertise and leadership;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, ROY COOPER, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim October, 2024, as “WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT PROFESSIONALS MONTH” in North Carolina, and commend its observance to all citizens.
