A Proclamation

Whereas, Careers in Construction Month is designated each year to increase public awareness and appreciation of construction craft professionals and the entire construction workforce; and

Whereas, Executive Order 36, Increasing Housing Opportunities for All North Carolinians, recognizes that meeting North Carolina’s housing needs depends on addressing the construction workforce shortage;

Whereas, the Governor’s Council on Workforce and Apprenticeships established goals to advance the careers we need to build and preserve our housing stock; and

Whereas, employers, associations, schools and community colleges, nonprofit organizations, and members of building- and housing-related industries are encouraged to conduct job fairs, panel discussions, and local community events to highlight the vast employment opportunities in construction; and

Whereas, the construction industry is one of our nation’s largest industries, employing more than 8 million individuals, with more than 700,000 new construction jobs needed each year to meet demand in the United States; and

Whereas, through a collaborative effort that reaches policymakers as well as local educators and high school students, our goal is to effectively address some of the issues that have contributed to chronic labor shortages and misperceptions of careers in construction to develop a skilled workforce for the future; and

Whereas, we are pleased to honor construction craft professionals and the critical roles they play in the development and growth of our state of North Carolina;

Now, Therefore, I, Josh Stein, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim October 2026 as “Careers In Construction Month” in North Carolina and commend its observance.

In Witness Whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and affixed the Great Seal of the State of North Carolina at the Capitol in Raleigh this twenty-fifth day of September in the year of our Lord two thousand and twenty-sixth and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and fifty-first.
