A PROCLAMATION
Whereas, in the first quarter of 2025, North Carolina benefited from more than $433 million in clean energy capital investment, which has resulted in 535 new jobs from energy projects, and, in the past three years, North Carolina has announced 27 clean energy projects responsible for more than $21 billion in investment and more than 12,000 jobs; and
Whereas, North Carolina’s colleges and universities, in coordination with local and state partners, local municipalities, business leaders, and many others, continue to advance research and innovation in clean energy technologies; and

Whereas, on August 26, 2025, Governor Stein issued Executive Order No. 23 to strengthen the state’s electricity infrastructure and energy affordability as demand increases and to continue the state’s leadership in the clean energy economy; and
Whereas, North Carolina ranks fifth nationally for installed solar energy capacity, ninth for clean energy jobs, and first for clean energy jobs in rural areas, with benefits in all 100 counties of the state, employing more than 100,000 North Carolinians across occupations advancing energy efficiency, renewable energy, electric transportation, energy storage, and other clean energy technologies; and
Whereas, cost of electricity for residential consumers is increasing, and energy demand is growing; solar and wind energy are among the cheapest forms of energy generation to build and maintain; and
Whereas, diversified sources of clean energy provide the electric grid with critical resilience attributes, as evidenced by the Hot Springs microgrid’s expeditious restoration of power to downtown facilities after Hurricane Helene washed away the town’s electrical substation that provided power from the main grid; and
Whereas, in 2023, North Carolina ranked among the five states producing the most electricity from nuclear power, which accounted for 33 percent of the state’s net generation, and the state is poised to continue to be a leader and innovator of advanced nuclear technologies; and

Whereas, the State of North Carolina encourages individuals and organizations to observe Clean Energy Week by learning about and adopting solutions that advance America’s clean energy opportunities and cost savings in the 21st century;
Now, Therefore, I, Josh Stein, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim September 15 – 19, 2025, as “Clean Energy Week” in North Carolina and commend its observance to all citizens.
