Crime Victims' Rights Week

2026

By The Governor Of The State Of North Carolina

A Proclamation

Whereas, crime can touch anyone, regardless of age, race, gender, or economic status, and its impact can last a lifetime for victims, families, and communities; and

Whereas, the rights, dignity, and respect of crime victims must be upheld and protected as they seek justice and healing; and

Whereas, North Carolina recognizes and affirms a national commitment to provide financial support to crime victims by the establishment of the Crime Victims Fund as a major funding source for compensation to crime victims throughout the United States; and

Whereas, the Governor’s Crime Commission and the Crime Victims Compensation Commission serve as a conduit through which vital financial support is provided for victims’ assistance and compensation programs in North Carolina; and

Whereas, we recognize the courage and resilience of victims and survivors of crime and reaffirm our commitment to ensuring their access to justice, support, and resources; and

Whereas, victim service providers, advocates, law enforcement, prosecutors, and community organizations work tirelessly to ensure victims of crime are treated with fairness, compassion, and respect throughout the justice process; and

Whereas, communities are stronger, safer, and more compassionate when we come together to prevent crime, support survivors, and offer a path to restoration; and this proclamation reaffirms our dedication to crime victims and survivors by letting their voices be heard and offering a future where hope and healing are restored;

Now, Therefore, I, Josh Stein, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim April 19 – 25, 2026, as “Crime Victims’ Rights Week” in North Carolina and commend its observance to all residents.
