Diaper Needs Awareness Week
2025
By The Governor Of The State Of North Carolina
A Proclamation
Whereas, diapers are essential for infants, toddlers, and young children who are not yet toilet-trained and necessary for participation in early care and education programs and daily life; and
Whereas, national research reports that one in two families struggle to secure enough diapers to keep their children clean, dry, and healthy due to insufficient income; and
Whereas, without enough diapers, babies and toddlers risk infections and health problems that may require medical attention and may prevent parents from attending work or school, thereby hurting the family’s economic prospects and well-being; and
Whereas, the lack of diapers can result in missed work or school due to a lack of access to child care; and
Whereas, addressing diaper needs strengthens families, reduces poverty-related stressors, and fosters healthier, more equitable communities; and
Whereas, North Carolina is proud to be home to trusted community-based organizations, including the Diaper Bank of North Carolina and Babies Need Bottoms, that recognize the importance of diapers in ensuring health and providing economic stability for families and thus distribute diapers to families through various channels;
Now, Therefore, I, Josh Stein, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim September 15 – 21, 2025, as “Diaper Needs Awareness Week” in North Carolina and commend its observance to all citizens.
In Witness Whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and affixed the Great Seal of the State of North Carolina at the Capitol in Raleigh this twenty-fifth day of August in the year of our Lord two thousand and twenty-fifth and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and forty-ninth.
