A Proclamation

Whereas, October marks the 81st anniversary of the enactment of National Disability Employment Awareness Month and the U.S. Department of Labor has announced that its Office of Disability Employment Policy has chosen this year’s theme of “Celebrating Value and Talent”; and
 

Whereas, Executive Order No. 92 established North Carolina as an Employment First State to increase opportunities for competitive wages, career employment, and economic self-sufficiency for people with disabilities, and directed the Office of State Human Resources to consult with the NC Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) to make state government a model employer of people with disabilities; and
 

Whereas, the NCDHHS Division of Employment and Independence for People with Disabilities and Division of Services for the Blind provide customized services that help jobseekers with disabilities achieve their goals for employment and independence while also delivering no-cost services and resources to employers who hire candidates with disabilities; and
 

Whereas, businesses that welcome the talents of all people, including people with disabilities, are an important part of state’s efforts to strengthen our workforce and create economic opportunity in every corner of the state; and
 

Whereas, the State of North Carolina recognizes National Disability Employment Awareness Month to raise awareness about disability employment issues, highlight the value and talent that people with disabilities bring to our workplaces and communities, and affirm our state’s commitment to giving everyone in North Carolina a fair shot at prosperity;

Now, Therefore, I, Josh Stein, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim October 2026 as “Disability Employment Awareness Month” in North Carolina and commend its observance.

In Witness Whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and affixed the Great Seal of the State of North Carolina at the Capitol in Raleigh this twenty-fifth day of September in the year of our Lord two thousand and twenty-sixth and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and fifty-first.
