A Proclamation
Whereas, Financial Literacy Month is dedicated to improving people’s understanding of money in an effort to ensure all Americans have access to trustworthy financial services and products; and
Whereas, during these challenging economic times, financial literacy can help families establish and maintain healthy financial habits; and
Whereas, financial literacy helps residents become more knowledgeable about finances and develop skills and strategies to manage personal finances, savings, and credit development; and
Whereas, Youth Financial Literacy Month, also celebrated in April, encourages early exposure to financial education that can increase confidence, reduce anxiety, and improve long-term success in household budgeting and planning; and
Whereas, the designation of Financial Literacy Month helps raise public awareness about the importance of financial education in North Carolina; and
Whereas, the North Carolina Department of Justice is home to the North Carolina Financial Literacy Council (FLC) established by the North Carolina General Assembly in 2009; the FLC’s purpose is to monitor and assist the Department of Public Instruction in the coordination of statewide delivery of financial education within the public school system, identify programs designed to increase the financial literacy of North Carolinians outside the public school system, and work to expand access to financial education resources and programs in communities across North Carolina; and
Whereas, the State of North Carolina encourages state agencies, public and private institutions, regional agencies, and community organizations to facilitate instruction, activities, and initiatives that contribute to developing and enhancing financial capability for economic success;
Now, Therefore, I, Josh Stein, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim April 2026 as “Financial Literacy Month” in North Carolina and commend its observance to all residents.
In Witness Whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and affixed the Great Seal of the State of North Carolina at the Capitol in Raleigh this seventeenth day of March in the year of our Lord two thousand and twenty-sixth and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and fiftieth.
