2025
By The Governor Of The State Of North Carolina
A Proclamation
Whereas, more than 1.3 million jobs in North Carolina are supported by trade, representing 20 percent of all jobs in the state; goods exported from North Carolina reached a record $43 billion in 2024; and agricultural exports surpassed $4.5 billion annually since 2022; and
Whereas, more than 320,000 North Carolinians go to work each day for foreign-owned companies; and more than 24,000 international students attend North Carolina’s colleges and universities, contributing $914 million to the state’s economy; and
Whereas, successful global engagement requires the support of leaders from education (P-20, including public, private, and community colleges); business; state, county, and local government; and the community, including nonprofits, which all play critical roles in advancing global engagement in North Carolina; and
Whereas, leaders across all sectors must collaborate to maintain a seat at the global table and provide job security for our children and their children; and
Whereas, global engagement is the process of strategically connecting and collaborating with other people and nations to increase knowledge of diverse cultures and expand economic, educational, social, or political relationships and opportunities; and
Whereas, optimizing economic well-being and quality of life for North Carolina depends on effectively engaging the rest of the world; and
Whereas, North Carolina is the first state to formalize a bipartisan private and public sector partnership of leaders from a variety of industries, the North Carolina Coalition for Global Competitiveness, to foster thought leadership and serve as a catalyst for our statewide vision for global engagement; and
Whereas, North Carolina is the first state to develop a detailed plan, the North Carolina Blueprint for Global Engagement, to guide progress toward global engagement across all sectors – education, business, government, and community; and
Whereas, global partnerships and trust are key to building a resilient future for all North Carolinians;
Now, Therefore, I, Josh Stein, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim November 6, 2025, as “Global Engagement Day” in North Carolina and commend its observance to all citizens.
In Witness Whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and affixed the Great Seal of the State of North Carolina at the Capitol in Raleigh this twenty-first day of October in the year of our Lord two thousand and twenty-fifth and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and fiftieth.
