A Proclamation
Whereas, according to Feeding America, 1,627,369 North Carolinas are experiencing food insecurity, with 438,200 individuals being children under 18 years old; and
Whereas, the causes of hunger are complex and interconnected and frequently include poverty and lack of access to education, affordable housing and health care, transportation, employment, and living wages; and
Whereas, North Carolina faced an estimated 19 percent increase in homelessness from 2023 to 2024, with more than 32,000 infants, toddlers, and preschool-aged children experiencing homelessness annually, according to the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services; and
Whereas, the purpose of this proclamation is to create awareness regarding Hunger and Homelessness in North Carolina and to educate the public about the many reasons people are hungry and homeless, including the shortage of affordable housing in North Carolina; and
Whereas, the theme of Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Month is “Speak Up” for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all that are marginalized;
Now, Therefore, I, Josh Stein, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim November 2025 as “Hunger And Homelessness Awareness Month” in North Carolina and commend its observance to all citizens.
