Injury Prevention Day
2026
By The Governor Of The State Of North Carolina
A Proclamation
Whereas, more than 10,000 North Carolinians died due to an injury in 2024, and injury-related deaths, including those resulting from falls, motor vehicle crashes, violence, overdose, and other causes, affect North Carolinians at all ages, and across every age, background, and community; and
Whereas, injuries can result in death, disability, lost productivity, and reduced quality of life, and yet many injuries can be prevented or their severity reduced through evidence-informed strategies, early intervention, education, and other prevention efforts; and
Whereas, public health surveillance and injury data can be used by partners across North Carolina to help better understand the prevalence and impact of injuries in our communities; and
Whereas, the North Carolina Injury and Violence Prevention Branch at the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) created a North Carolina Injury Data User Toolkit to establish and promote a base understanding around injury data, ensure injury data resources are understandable and actionable, provide resources that support the use of injury data to help address injury and violence in North Carolina, and promote using data to turn knowledge into action; and
Whereas, Injury Prevention Day provides an opportunity to elevate the importance of injury prevention and of using public health data to inform evidence-based strategies to reduce injury risks to support the health and safety of North Carolina communities;
Now, Therefore, I, Josh Stein, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim November 18, 2026, as “Injury Prevention Day” in North Carolina and commend its observance.
In Witness Whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and affixed the Great Seal of the State of North Carolina at the Capitol in Raleigh this twenty-sixth day of October in the year of our Lord two thousand and twenty-sixth and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and fifty-first.
