International Volunteer Month
2025
By The Governor Of The State Of North Carolina
A Proclamation
Whereas, the State of North Carolina recognizes the invaluable contributions of volunteers who selflessly dedicate their time, energy, and expertise to improving the quality of life in our communities and around the world; and
Whereas, International Volunteer Month is celebrated throughout December as an expansion of the United Nations General Assembly’s 1985 mandate recognizing International Volunteer Day, offering an extended opportunity to uplift and honor volunteerism worldwide; and
Whereas, this month pays tribute to frontline and grassroots volunteers who support public welfare initiatives and advance critical goals in areas such as education, health, social equity, environmental protection, disaster response, and economic development; and
Whereas, volunteers remain the backbone of countless nonprofit organizations, government agencies, faith communities, academic institutions, and private-sector initiatives, working tirelessly to support, serve, and strengthen North Carolina’s communities; and
Whereas, the spirit of volunteerism has played a vital role in our state’s history – from disaster relief following hurricanes and floods to community assistance throughout public health crises to support for neighbors in need – demonstrating the compassion and resilience that define North Carolinians; and
Whereas, the United Nations reports that volunteerism continues to grow globally, with hundreds of millions of people dedicating their time each month, reinforcing the truth that collective service can transform societies and build a more just, resilient, and connected world; and
Whereas, the State of North Carolina encourages all residents to celebrate this month by engaging in acts of service, participating in volunteer opportunities, supporting local organizations, and inspiring future generations to embrace civic responsibility and community leadership;
Now, Therefore, I, Josh Stein, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim December 2025 to be “International Volunteer Month” in North Carolina and commend its observance to all citizens.
In Witness Whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and affixed the Great Seal of the State of North Carolina at the Capitol in Raleigh this eighteenth day of November in the year of our Lord two thousand and twenty-fifth and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and fiftieth.
