A Proclamation
Whereas, life sciences form a critical sector for North Carolina by generating $82.1 billion in statewide economic activity and $2.5 billion in state and local tax revenue; and
Whereas, life sciences provide critical solutions to global challenges, such as food scarcity and the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of diseases; and
Whereas, in 2023, North Carolina’s life sciences industry is comprised of nearly 6,700 state business establishments; and
Whereas, life sciences provide meaningful careers for more than 103,000 workers statewide, with an average annual wage of $121,000; and
Whereas, North Carolina has historically been one of the leading recipients of research funding from the National Institutes of Health; and
Whereas, North Carolina ranks seventh among all states in life sciences employment; and
Whereas, development of workforce programs focusing on life sciences and educating high school students on the array of career pathways in life sciences will continue to help strengthen North Carolina’s position in the industry, especially as it may be important to national security; and
Whereas, Life Sciences Week is an opportunity for professionals, parents, teachers, and guidance counselors to promote awareness of the excellent training and career opportunities available to North Carolinians statewide;
Now, Therefore, I, Josh Stein, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim September 15 – 19, 2025, as “Life Sciences Week” in North Carolina and commend its observance to all citizens.
In Witness Whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and affixed the Great Seal of the State of North Carolina at the Capitol in Raleigh this twenty-fifth day of August in the year of our Lord two thousand and twenty-fifth and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and forty-ninth.
