Military Spouse Appreciation Day
2026
By The Governor Of The State Of North Carolina
A Proclamation
Whereas, North Carolina is home to approximately 56,000 spouses of active-duty servicemembers, National Guard members, and Reserve soldiers; and
Whereas, the spouses and families of our servicemembers make sacrifices alongside their loved ones to help protect the freedoms we enjoy; and
Whereas, the spouses of our military service members remain steadfast, raising their families and maintaining their homes while their loved ones defend our nation’s values against our adversaries; and
Whereas, North Carolina offers employment preference to the spouse or dependent of a deceased or disabled Veteran and continues to improve and expedite occupational licensure for our military spouses; and
Whereas, this year the North Carolina Department of Military and Veterans Affairs is working diligently to expand its commitment by launching a statewide road show to showcase the resilience, adaptability, and exceptional talent of military spouses to business leaders across our state, thereby elevating their visibility and strengthening pathways to meaningful employment; and
Whereas, North Carolina recognizes the selflessness of these military spouses and the debt of gratitude we owe for their contributions to and leadership in our communities; and
Whereas, the success of many of our brave servicemembers depends on the support of their military spouses, whose resolve, sacrifice, and dedication exhibit the best of what it means to be a North Carolinian; and
Now, Therefore, I, Josh Stein, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim May 8, 2026, as “Military Spouse Appreciation Day” in North Carolina and commend its observance to all residents.
In Witness Whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and affixed the Great Seal of the State of North Carolina at the Capitol in Raleigh this twenty-seventh day of April in the year of our Lord two thousand and twenty-sixth and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and fiftieth.
