A Proclamation
Whereas, charter schools are public schools that increase learning opportunities for all students and provide parents and students with expanded opportunities within the public school system; and
Whereas, 210 charter schools operate in North Carolina, serving nearly 150,000 students; and
Whereas, charter schools seek to improve student learning by encouraging the development of innovative teaching methods and providing new professional opportunities for teachers; and
Whereas, charter schools play integral roles in North Carolina’s public education system and the communities in which they operate to serve families and enrich students’ lives; and
Whereas, charter schools encourage community and parental involvement in the education of our youth; and
Whereas, charter schools offer a variety of learning environments and emphases, including college-preparedness, career technical education, arts, and STEM; and
Whereas, the State of North Carolina joins the North Carolina Association for Public Charter Schools in celebrating the accomplishments and contributions of Charter Schools to public education;
Now, Therefore, I, Josh Stein, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim May 11 – 15, 2026, as “National Charter Schools Week” in North Carolina and commend its observance to all residents.
In Witness Whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and affixed the Great Seal of the State of North Carolina at the Capitol in Raleigh this twenty-seventh day of April in the year of our Lord two thousand and twenty-sixth and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and fiftieth.
