National Day Of Prayer

2026

By The Governor Of The State Of North Carolina

A Proclamation

Whereas, throughout the history of America, people of all faiths have found solace in the act of lifting prayers up to the Lord to seek guidance for direction, protection, and provision and to ensure that God would be glorified; and

Whereas, the National Day of Prayer is a Public Law established in the United States Congress in 1952 approved by a Joint Resolution, signed by President Truman and amended by Congress and President Reagan with Public Law 100-307 in 1988, affirming that it is essential for us as a nation to pray and directs the President of the United States to set aside and proclaim the first Thursday of May annually as a National Day of Prayer; and

Whereas, in our state and across America the observance of the National Day of Prayer will be held on Thursday, May 7, 2026, with the theme of “Glorify God Among the Nations, Seeking Him in All Generations,” based on the verse in 1 Chronicles 16:24, “Tell of His glory among the nations, His wonderful deeds among all the peoples”;

Now, Therefore, I, Josh Stein, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim May 7, 2026, as “National Day Of Prayer” in North Carolina and commend its observance to all residents.

In Witness Whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and affixed the Great Seal of the State of North Carolina at the Capitol in Raleigh this twenty-seventh day of April in the year of our Lord two thousand and twenty-sixth and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and fiftieth.
