A Proclamation

Whereas, National Employ Older Workers Week recognizes that many older adults bring essential strengths to North Carolina’s workforce, including reliability, resilience, and decades of valuable experience that contribute to workplace stability and productivity; and

Whereas, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that North Carolina’s labor force participation among adults age 55 and older has steadily increased in recent years, reflecting the state’s growing population of experienced workers who continue to remain active in the labor market; and

Whereas, in North Carolina, the Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) provides paid training and community service assignments to low-income adults age 55 and older, supporting pathways to unsubsidized employment and helping meet workforce needs across high-growth sectors; and

Whereas, data from the U.S. Department of Labor show that employment among older adults in North Carolina – particularly those ages 65 through 74 – continues to rise, demonstrating sustained employer demand for experienced workers and the importance of reducing age-related barriers to employment statewide;

Now, Therefore, I, Josh Stein, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim September 20 – 26, 2026, as “National Employ Older Workers Week” in North Carolina and commend its observance.
