National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend

2026

By The Governor Of The State Of North Carolina

A Proclamation

Whereas, the United States Congress and the President of the United States have designated the day of the annual National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service as a day to honor firefighters and emergency services personnel who have sacrificed their lives to save others; and the observance is marked by the lowering of the American flag on all federal buildings to half-staff; and

Whereas, an average of 80 firefighters courageously make the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty each year; and

Whereas, firefighters and emergency services personnel play essential roles in the protection of lives and property in our local communities; and

Whereas, it is of major importance that we increase our efforts to reduce deaths, injuries, and property losses from fire;

Now, Therefore, I, Josh Stein, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim May 2 – 3, 2026, as “National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend” in North Carolina and commend its observance to all residents.

In Witness Whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and affixed the Great Seal of the State of North Carolina at the Capitol in Raleigh this twenty-seventh day of April in the year of our Lord two thousand and twenty-sixth and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and fiftieth.
