A Proclamation

Whereas, for more than 60 years, Community Health Centers have provided high-quality, affordable, comprehensive primary and preventive health care in our nation’s communities with limited access, delivering value to and having a significant impact on America's health care system; and 

Whereas, Community Health Centers in North Carolina serve hundreds of thousands of residents each year by providing access to primary care, behavioral health services, pharmacy services, women’s health care, pediatric care, chronic disease management, and preventative health services regardless of income or insurance status; and 

Whereas, federally qualified health centers and Community Health Centers help reduce barriers to health care access for medically underserved populations by expanding access to affordable, patient-centered care in both rural and urban communities across North Carolina; and 

Whereas, Community Health Centers play vital roles in strengthening North Carolina’s health care safety net by improving health outcomes, reducing unnecessary emergency room use, and supporting healthier individuals, families, and communities; and

Whereas, physicians, nurses, behavioral health providers, pharmacists, support staff, and community partners working within North Carolina’s Community Health Centers demonstrate ongoing dedication and compassion in serving the health care needs of residents throughout the state; and

Whereas, the last week of August is Community Health Center Worker Week; we also celebrate the dedication, compassion, and commitment of our community health workers in empowering individuals and communities to lead healthier lives and build a brighter future for all; and

Whereas, National Health Center Week offers the opportunity to celebrate North Carolina’s 42 Community Health Centers with more than 750 service delivery sites in more than 90 counties, including more than 330 school-based sites and more than 50 mobile units; we celebrate the legacy of America’s Community Health Centers and their vital roles in building innovative care across local communities where it matters most;

Now, Therefore, I, Josh Stein, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim August 2-8, 2026, as “National Health Center Week” in North Carolina and commend its observance to all residents.

In Witness Whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and affixed the Great Seal of the State of North Carolina at the Capitol in Raleigh this twenty-first day of July in the year of our Lord two thousand and twenty-sixth and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and fifty-first.
