A Proclamation

Whereas, nurse practitioners (NPs) have served critical roles as trusted health care providers for decades, expanding access to high-quality, patient-centered care for the people of North Carolina; and

Whereas, nurse practitioners provide comprehensive primary, acute, and specialty health care services, emphasizing disease prevention, health promotion, patient education, and collaborative care that improves health outcomes; and

Whereas, patients rely on the expertise of more than 461,000 licensed nurse practitioners nationwide, resulting in nearly 1 billion patient visits each year, demonstrating the public’s confidence in NP-delivered care; and

Whereas, more than five decades of research have consistently demonstrated that nurse practitioners provide safe, high-quality, evidence-based, and cost-effective health care across a variety of practice settings; and

Whereas, nurse practitioners play especially vital roles in increasing access to care in rural and underserved communities throughout North Carolina, helping meet the growing health care needs of individuals and families; and

Whereas, National Nurse Practitioner Week recognizes the invaluable contributions nurse practitioners make to improving the health and well-being of North Carolina’s residents through compassionate, accessible, and innovative care;

Now, Therefore, I, Josh Stein, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim November 8 – 14, 2026, as “National Nurse Practitioner Week” in North Carolina and commend its observance.
