National Youth Service Day
2026
By The Governor Of The State Of North Carolina
A Proclamation
Whereas, in 2026, 82 percent of youth ages 12-25 report having engaged in at least some form of service to their communities;
Whereas, youth service makes a difference in the lives of others and is an outlet for leadership, community, and curiosity; and
Whereas, volunteer work benefits youth as frequent volunteers report greater confidence in their ability to overcome challenges, a sense of connection with their communities, and greater career readiness; and,
Whereas, 1 in 3 young people in the United States do not have a mentor, and mentorship through service should be encouraged as research shows that youth with mentors are less likely to do drugs or drink alcohol, skip school, or be arrested; and
Whereas, youth volunteerism is positive, not only for our state but also for the well-being of our next generation; and
Whereas, service to their communities allows young people to engage with others in their communities and to learn from mentors who will help the youth as they grow, join the workforce, and continue to serve others;
Now, Therefore, I, Josh Stein, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim April 14, 2026, as “National Youth Service Day” in North Carolina and commend its observance to all residents.
In Witness Whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and affixed the Great Seal of the State of North Carolina at the Capitol in Raleigh this twenty-sixth day of March in the year of our Lord two thousand and twenty-sixth and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and fiftieth.
