A Proclamation

Whereas, the State of North Carolina, through the leadership of the Governor and the Secretary of Transportation, is dedicated to enhancing the beauty and cleanliness of communities across our state; and

Whereas, we recognize the importance of preserving our environment and fostering civic pride among all residents; and

Whereas, the great natural beauty of our state and a clean environment are sources of pride for North Carolinians, supporting health and well-being, attracting visitors, and strengthening economic development; and

Whereas, Keep North Carolina Beautiful’s inaugural Greatest American Cleanup increases awareness of the need for cleaner roadsides, parks, and waterways from the coast to the mountains; and

Whereas, litter cleanup, recycling, native plantings, and community beautification projects carried out during the Greatest American Cleanup strengthen civic pride, protect wildlife, and safeguard the health of North Carolina’s land and waterways; and

Whereas, the leadership of Keep North Carolina Beautiful and its affiliates, together with the Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Special Olympics North Carolina, local citizens, and corporate partners, demonstrates the power of public-private partnerships in addressing environmental challenges; and

Whereas, the contributions of volunteers, including youth, families, community organizations, and businesses, foster environmental stewardship, educational engagement, and a cleaner, greener future for all North Carolinians; and

Whereas, America’s 250th Anniversary on July 4, 2026, will present a historic opportunity for North Carolina to showcase our leadership in sustainability, environmental stewardship, and community pride;

Now, Therefore, I, Josh Stein, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim October 4, 2025, as North Carolina’s Greatest American Cleanupin North Carolina and commend its observance to all citizens.
