A Proclamation
Whereas, the State of North Carolina encourages its employees and citizens to use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) across the state in an effort to reduce work-related injuries; and
Whereas, PPE is equipment worn to minimize exposure to hazards that cause serious workplace injuries and illnesses that may result from contact with chemical, radiological, physical, electrical, mechanical, or other workplace hazards; and
Whereas, the U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) addresses standards for PPE for numerous industries; and
Whereas, based on a recent study, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reports: 99 percent of workers wearing face protection avoided injuries, and among workers with foot injuries, 75 percent were not wearing safety shoes or boots; and
Whereas, 60 percent of workers suffering eye injuries were not wearing eye protection at the time of the accident, and 90 percent of all workplace eye injuries are preventable with the use of proper eyewear and safety measures; and
Whereas, injuries to the head, hands, feet, and eyes can be avoided with the use of PPE; and
Whereas, safety glasses, protective gloves, safety shoes, hard hats, earplugs or muffs, respirators, coveralls, vests, full body suits, and other protective clothing help prevent injuries from daily tasks at the workplace; and
Whereas, during the month of August, all North Carolinians can observe Personal Protective Equipment Month by recommitting to always use protective equipment for safety;
Now, Therefore, I, Josh Stein, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim August 2025 as “Personal Protective Equipment Month” in North Carolina and commend its observance to all citizens.
