A Proclamation
Whereas, pregnancy and infant loss affects thousands of families each year through miscarriage, stillbirth, ectopic pregnancy, neonatal death, Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), and other causes of infant loss; and
Whereas, the loss of a baby is a profound and heartbreaking experience that leaves a lasting impact on parents, siblings, grandparents, and extended family members; and
Whereas, compassionate support, education, advocacy, and access to bereavement resources play important roles in helping families navigate their grief and find healing and hope; and
Whereas, health care professionals, support organizations, faith communities, advocates, and volunteers throughout North Carolina work tirelessly to provide comfort, support, and resources to families impacted by pregnancy and infant loss; and
Whereas, increasing public awareness fosters understanding, encourages meaningful conversations, supports maternal and infant health initiatives, and helps ensure that grieving families receive the care and compassion they deserve; and
Whereas, October 15 is recognized as Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day, providing an opportunity for families, friends, and communities to honor and remember babies whose lives, though brief, left an enduring impact and are forever cherished; and
Whereas, North Carolina joins individuals and organizations across the nation in recognizing the importance of remembering these precious lives and supporting those who grieve their loss;
Now, Therefore, I, Josh Stein, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim October 2026 as “Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month” and October 15, 2026, as “Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day” in North Carolina and commend their observance.
