A Proclamation

Whereas, North Carolina is proud to be home to many public service professionals, including   approximately 77,000 state employees who serve the people of our state through their work for state agencies, public universities, and community colleges across North Carolina’s 100 counties; and 

Whereas, our public sector employees perform their jobs daily with professionalism, providing indispensable services to the people of North Carolina; and 

Whereas, public servants positively impact daily life in North Carolina through providing education; protecting our safety; ensuring our health; promoting good jobs and a stronger economy; keeping our air, water, and food safe; securing our means of transportation and communication; and much more; and 

Whereas, millions of North Carolina residents and visitors benefit daily from the unwavering dedication, commitment, professionalism, and hard work of public servants and state employees; and 

Whereas, state employees help make North Carolina one of the best places to live in the nation, earning our state consistently high rankings for business, climate, and livability;

Now, Therefore, I, Josh Stein, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim May 3 – 9, 2026, as “Public Service Recognition Week” and May 6, 2026, as “Employee Appreciation Day” in North Carolina and commend its observance to all residents.
