A Proclamation
Whereas, the North Carolina Central University Men’s Tennis Team has contributed greatly to our state’s reputation of excellence in collegiate sports; and
Whereas, on September 18-21, the 2025 HBCU National Tennis Championships were hosted at the renowned South Fulton Tennis Center in Atlanta, Georgia; and
Whereas, the North Carolina Central University (NCCU) Men’s Tennis Team captured the HBCU National Title with a total of 82 points; Alabama State and Tennessee State finished with 57 and 52 points, respectively; and
Whereas, North Carolina Central University’s Naresh Bharathy was the Flight B Singles Champion, and Naresh Bharathy and Antoni Pankowski were the Flight B Doubles Champions; and
Whereas, this is the second HBCU National Tennis Championship that the NCCU Men’s Tennis Team has captured, the previous title being won in 2014; and
Whereas, North Carolina Central University remains a leading institution of higher education dedicated to excellence in the classroom, community, and athletic competition; the Intercollegiate Tennis Association recognized the NCCU Men’s Tennis Team for having the highest team GPA in the country for all Division I Men’s Tennis Teams; and
Whereas, the State of North Carolina is proud to congratulate the illustrious North Carolina Central University Eagles for becoming the 2025 HBCU National Tennis Champions;
Now, Therefore, I, Josh Stein, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim October 1, 2025, as “In Recognition Of The NCCU Men’s Tennis Team HBCU National Championship Win” in North Carolina and commend its observance to all citizens.
In Witness Whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and affixed the Great Seal of the State of North Carolina at the Capitol in Raleigh this first day of October in the year of our Lord two thousand and twenty-fifth and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and fiftieth.
