A Proclamation

 

Whereas, rehabilitation professionals provide vital counseling, guidance, planning, and support services to help people overcome disability-related barriers and achieve their unique goals for competitive employment, increased independence and self-sufficiency, and active participation in communities across North Carolina; and 

Whereas, rehabilitation professionals possess the specialized training and skills to assess, guide, and motivate clients to work toward their professional and personal goals while learning to navigate challenges and access the resources they need; and

Whereas, rehabilitation professionals are committed to fulfilling the promise of the Americans with Disabilities Act by increasing opportunities for people with disabilities and supporting the State of North Carolina’s efforts to become a model employer of workers with disabilities; and

Whereas, more than 3,400 rehabilitation counselors work across all sectors in North Carolina, including more than 400 employed by the NC Department of Health and Human Services; and

Whereas, demand for rehabilitation counselors will grow to meet the needs of an aging population and the continued rehabilitation needs of veterans and civilians with disabilities; and

Whereas, all rehabilitation professionals should be commended for their hard work and dedication to individuals in need of rehabilitation services;

Now, Therefore, I, Josh Stein, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim March 21, 2026, as “Rehabilitation Professionals’ Appreciation Day” in North Carolina and commend its observance to all residents.
