Transit Equity Day
2026
By The Governor Of The State Of North Carolina
A Proclamation
Whereas, Transit Equity Day honors the life, legacy, and direct impact Rosa Parks had on civil rights and the integration of public transit systems, with the belief that all persons should have the right to access public transit; and
Whereas, Transit Equity Day highlights the role public transit plays in social inclusion, access to opportunities, and fairness for all; and
Whereas, we continuously seek to address injustices in public transit by providing affordable and accessible public transit for all persons while in pursuit of equitable transit planning though robust community engagement initiatives and development of strong community partnerships; and
Whereas, the state of North Carolina recognizes public transit is essential to growth and economic sustainability, as public transit is a vital means to connect North Carolinians to jobs, health care, education, and much more; and
Whereas, the state of North Carolina commands safe and reliable transit for all North Carolinians regardless of race, ability, age, income, or identity;
Now, Therefore, I, Josh Stein, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim February 4, 2026, as “Transit Equity Day” in North Carolina and commend its observance to all residents.
In Witness Whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and affixed the Great Seal of the State of North Carolina at the Capitol in Raleigh this twenty-seventh day of January in the year of our Lord two thousand and twenty-sixth and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and fiftieth.
