A Proclamation
Whereas, treatment courts represent the most successful justice system intervention for individuals with substance use and mental health disorders; and
Whereas, these programs save lives, reunite families, and reduce crime by combining rigorous treatment with intensive judicial supervision; and
Whereas, treatment courts annually refer more than 150,000 people to lifesaving treatment and recovery support services; and
Whereas, more than 4,000 operate nationwide, there are 45 treatment courts that operate in North Carolina providing adult, family, juvenile, and veteran intervention; and
Whereas, treatment courts provide a range of economic benefits to a community, such as reduced costs in court and prison expenditures, increased tax revenues, lowered foster care expenses, and decreased costs related to victimization;
Now, Therefore, I, Josh Stein, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim May 2026 as “Treatment Court Month” in North Carolina and commend its observance to all residents.
In Witness Whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and affixed the Great Seal of the State of North Carolina at the Capitol in Raleigh this twenty-seventh day of April in the year of our Lord two thousand and twenty-sixth and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and fiftieth.
