Ukraine Independence Day In North Carolina
2025
By The Governor Of The State Of North Carolina
A Proclamation
Whereas, the State of North Carolina proudly recognizes August 24, 2025, as the 34th anniversary of Ukraine’s independence, first declared by the Ukrainian Parliament in 1991 and affirmed by more than 90% of voters in a national referendum; and
Whereas, North Carolinians appreciate and respect Ukrainian Americans’ support for their homeland’s centuries-old fight to preserve their language, culture, and identity in the face of oppression, most recently defending their sovereignty against Russia’s full-scale invasion that began in 2022; and
Whereas, North Carolinians, along with fellow Americans and our allies, share the values of democracy and self-determination that keep Ukraine’s Armed Forces fighting for their nation’s freedom; and
Whereas, North Carolinians show support for Ukraine through humanitarian aid, community action, and welcoming displaced families to our state; and
Whereas, North Carolina hosts a vibrant Ukrainian American community that contributes to our state’s cultural and civic life and honors a long legacy of Ukrainian immigration to our nation; and
Whereas, it is vital to recognize the Ukrainian people’s bravery and sacrifice and stand in solidarity with them as they defend their nation and future;
Now, Therefore, I, Josh Stein, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim August 24, 2025, as “Ukraine Independence Day In North Carolina” and encourage all citizens to honor Ukraine’s fight for freedom and the contributions of Ukrainian Americans to our state.
In Witness Whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and affixed the Great Seal of the State of North Carolina at the Capitol in Raleigh this tenth day of August in the year of our Lord two thousand and twenty-fifth and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and forty-ninth.
