United States Marine Corps Birthday
2025
By The Governor Of The State Of North Carolina
A Proclamation
Whereas, on November 10, 1775, the Continental Congress authorized the formation of two battalions of Continental Marines; and
Whereas, the United States Marines have served with distinction in every conflict since their founding, holding true to their heritage of “any clime and place”; and
Whereas, North Carolina is home to more than 40,000 active-duty Marines and 1,000 reserve Marines who proudly defend the freedoms enjoyed by North Carolinians; and
Whereas, Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune in Jacksonville, Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point in Havelock, and Marine Corps Air Station New River in Jacksonville fill critical roles in the Marine Corps mission on the Eastern Seaboard; and
Whereas, Montford Point in Jacksonville served as the recruit depot for African American Marines when they were allowed to enlist in 1942, representing a major milestone in the Civil Rights movement; and
Whereas, today, we seek to honor and celebrate the founding of the United States Marine Corps and wish the Corps a heartfelt happy 250th birthday; and
Whereas, the State of North Carolina encourages all residents, businesses, organizations, leaders, and elected officials to continue their strong support of the United States Marine Corps and their ongoing mission to ensure our freedom;
Now, Therefore, I, Josh Stein, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim November 10, 2025, as “United States Marine Corps Birthday” in North Carolina and commend its observance to all citizens.
In Witness Whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and affixed the Great Seal of the State of North Carolina at the Capitol in Raleigh this twenty-first day of October in the year of our Lord two thousand and twenty-fifth and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and fiftieth.
