Walk For Peace Day

2026

By The Governor Of The State Of North Carolina

A Proclamation

Whereas, peace is a fundamental value and practice that strengthens communities across North Carolina and the world; and peace fosters understanding and harmony among all people; and

Whereas, the venerable monks on the 2,300-mile Walk for Peace are delivering a much-needed North Star of compassion and unity, bringing together individuals from diverse backgrounds to stand against violence and to advocate for compassion, justice, and mutual respect; and

Whereas, over its four months, this walk will travel 10 states, encouraging dialogue, cooperation, and collective action to create a more peaceful society now and in the future; and

Whereas, the State of North Carolina values initiatives that inspire hope and reaffirm our shared commitment to peace; and

Whereas, January 14-27, the expected dates of the monks’ Walk for Peace through North Carolina, is a time of peace for the state; and all North Carolinians are called upon to enjoy this meaningful effort to promote peace, understanding, and goodwill throughout our communities;

Now, Therefore, I, Josh Stein, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim January 24, 2026, as Walk For Peace Dayin North Carolina and commend its observance to all residents.

In Witness Whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and affixed the Great Seal of the State of North Carolina at the Capitol in Raleigh this twenty-first day of January in the year of our Lord two thousand and twenty-sixth and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and fiftieth.
