A Proclamation

Whereas, in 2025, an estimated 67,440 people in the United States will be diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, and approximately 52,00 will lose their lives to this devastating disease; and

Whereas, in North Carolina it is estimated that 1,910 people will die of pancreatic cancer in 2025

WHEREAS, pancreatic cancer is currently the third-leading cause of cancer-related death in the United States – surpassing breast cancer – and is projected to become the second by 2030; and

Whereas, pancreatic cancer has the lowest five-year relative survival rate of all major cancers, currently at 13 percent, and remains the only major cancer with a five-year survival rate below 20 percent; and

Whereas, symptoms of pancreatic cancer often appear in the late stages, resulting in only 15 percent of cases being diagnosed when the disease is still localized, and more than 87 percent of people diagnosed die within five years; and

Whereas, the health and well-being of North Carolinians are enhanced through greater awareness, education, and research into early detection, risk factors, and effective treatments for pancreatic cancer;

Now, Therefore, I, Josh Stein, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim November 20, 2025, as World Pancreatic Cancer Dayin North Carolina and commend its observance to all citizens.
