A Proclamation
Whereas, the Carolina Museum of the Marine in Jacksonville, North Carolina, will officially open to the public on June 8, 2026, realizing a vision more than 25 years in the making; and
Whereas, this opening coincides with the 250th anniversary of the United States and the United States Marine Corps, a historic milestone that invites reflection on the enduring values of service, sacrifice, and devotion to duty; and
Whereas, the museum stands as a lasting tribute to the legacy of Carolina Marines and Sailors who have defended our nation in times of war and peace; and
Whereas, North Carolina has long played a vital role in supporting the Marine Corps through installations including Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, Montford Point, Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, and Marine Corps Air Station New River, alongside communities that have supported servicemembers and their families for generations; and
Whereas, the Carolina Museum of the Marine preserves and shares the stories and experiences that reflect the highest ideals of courage, leadership, and citizenship while serving as a destination of statewide and national significance that strengthens heritage tourism, advances education, and contributes to the economic vitality of eastern North Carolina; and
Whereas, through its exhibits and programs, the museum will inspire future generations to carry forward the values exemplified by those who have served;
Now, Therefore, I, Josh Stein, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim June 8, 2026, as “In Recognition Of The Carolina Museum Of The Marine Opening Day” in North Carolina and commend its observance to all residents.
