A Proclamation
Whereas, the U.S. Army’s Military Ocean Terminal Sunny Point (MOTSU) is among the largest military terminals in the world and the largest munitions port in the United States and was first constructed in 1951 and later opened in 1955 on the west bank of the Cape Fear River in Brunswick County, North Carolina; and
Whereas, MOTSU encompasses more than 16,000 acres and is home to the 596th Transportation Brigade of the U.S. Army’s Military Surface Deployment and Distribution Command and a workforce of approximately 350 military personnel, civilians, and contractors; and
Whereas, MOTSU is the U.S. Department of Defense’s primary munitions seaport supporting the European, African, and Middle Eastern areas of operation; and
Whereas, MOTSU has moved munitions for every major armed conflict since its establishment, including the Vietnam War, the Persian Gulf War, and the Global War on Terrorism; and
Whereas, November 1, 2025, marks 70 years since the commencement of operations at MOTSU; and
Whereas, the State of North Carolina and the North Carolina Department of Military and Veterans Affairs deem it is our responsibility to honor, support, and recognize our North Carolina service members, veterans, and their families in their mission to defend our principles of liberty and freedom;
Now, Therefore, I, Josh Stein, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim November 1, 2025, as “In Recognition Of The Military Ocean Terminal Sunny Point 70th Anniversary” in North Carolina and commend its observance to all citizens.
In Witness Whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and affixed the Great Seal of the State of North Carolina at the Capitol in Raleigh this twenty-first day of October in the year of our Lord two thousand and twenty-fifth and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and fiftieth.
