A Proclamation
Whereas, December 1, 1941, marked the founding of the Civil Air Patrol, a civilian organization that has served the nation with dedication for 85 years; and
Whereas, the North Carolina Wing of the Civil Air Patrol was established by Governor J. Melville Broughton, integrating volunteer aircraft resources with the new National Civil Air Patrol organization on December 9, 1941; and
Whereas, the Civil Air Patrol operates as the official volunteer auxiliary of the United States Air Force, performing vital missions in emergency services, aerospace science education, and the national cadet programs; and
Whereas, North Carolina Wing Civil Air Patrol volunteers consistently provide unmatched service through crucial tasks like search and rescue, disaster relief, hurricane support operations, and homeland security, serving America’s communities, saving lives, and shaping futures; and
Whereas, the North Carolina Civil Air Patrol in 1941 started with approximately 350 volunteers, numerous private aircraft, and two coastal patrol bases that provided vital support for military operations during World War II and now has more than 2,300 volunteers; and
Whereas, it is appropriate to officially recognize the contributions of the dedicated men and women of the Civil Air Patrol for their selfless service to North Carolina and the country;
Now, Therefore, I, Josh Stein, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim February 14, 2026, as “In Recognition Of The North Carolina Wing, Civil Air Patrol 85th Anniversary” in North Carolina, and commend its observance to all residents.
In Witness Whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and affixed the Great Seal of the State of North Carolina at the Capitol in Raleigh this twenty-seventh day of January in the year of our Lord two thousand and twenty-sixth and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and fiftieth.
