Today, Governor Roy Cooper announced appointments to North Carolina boards and commissions.
Gov. Cooper has appointed the following individual to the North Carolina Appraisal Board:
- Darius R. Chase of Waxhaw as a banking industry representative. Chase is the Senior Vice President of Private Banking for South State Bank. He was also president of the Charlotte Regional Mortgage Lenders Association in 2016.
Gov. Cooper has appointed the following individual to the North Carolina State Board of Architecture and Registered Interior Designers:
- Walton R. Teague of Elon as an architect. Teague is the founding partner emeritus of Teague Freyaldenhoven Architects. Teague has nearly 35 years of architecture experience with a diverse project resume. Teague served on the American Institute of Architecture North Carolina Chapter board for years and was president of the board in 2007.
Gov. Cooper has appointed the following individual to the North Carolina Arts Council:
- Latha Pamarthi of Knightdale as a member at-large. Pamarthi works as an IT Project Manager for the Department of Insurance, where she has worked for twenty-three years now. In 2002, she founded the Triangle Indian Youth Organization.
Gov. Cooper has appointed the following individual to the North Carolina Advisory Committee on Cancer Coordination and Control:
- Dr. Ronny A. Bell of Greensboro as the Bowman Gray School of Medicine, of Wake Forest University, Cancer Control Program Representative. Bell currently serves on the faculty at Wake Forest University’s School of Medicine as a Professor in the Department of Social Sciences and Health Policy, in the Public Health Sciences Division. He is also the Associate Director of Community Outreach and Engagement and Director of the Office of Cancer Health Equity at Wake Forest Baptist Comprehensive Cancer Center.
Gov. Cooper has appointed the following individual to the Carteret Community College Board of Trustees:
- Penny Jane Widell Hooper of Smyrna as a member at-large. Hooper is a former biology teacher at Carteret Community College, where she taught for 16 years. She is a dedicated climate justice advocate, currently serving as Leadership Council Chair of the North Carolina Interfaith Power and Light and has remained on the Advisory Council for the organization over the last 16 years.
Gov. Cooper has appointed the following individual to the Catawba Valley Community College Board of Trustees:
- Alanda D. Johnson of Conover as a member at-large. Johnson is a business teacher for the Hickory Public School System. She was given the honor of Hickory Rotary Teacher of the Year for the 2020-21 school year.
Gov. Cooper has appointed the following individual to the Central Piedmont Community College Board of Trustees:
- Chris E. Paterson of Charlotte as a member at-large. Paterson is the Chief Executive Officer and Board Director of Carolina Complete Health, a joint venture between his long-term employer, the Centene Corporation and the North Carolina Medical Society, in conjunction with the North Carolina Community Health Center Association.
Gov. Cooper has appointed the following individual to the Edenton Historical Commission:
- Dr. Emma Inez Bonner of Edenton as member at-large. Dr. Bonner is a leader in the Edenton community and a member of the Edenton Reconciliation Group.
Gov. Cooper has appointed the following individual to the North Carolina Council on Educational Services for Exceptional Children:
- Linda R. McDonough of Chapel Hill as a representative of a private school. McDonough is the Founder and Director of Hope Creek Academy in Durham, a K-12 school servicing children with special needs. She is the founder of the Augustine Literacy Project, a nonprofit housed in Chapel Hill aimed to serve low-income children with reading difficulties.
Gov. Cooper has appointed the following individual to the North Carolina State Board of Registered Environmental Health Specialist Examiners:
- Bibianna P. Contti of New Bern as an environmental health specialist from the east. She works as a Program Specialist for Pamlico County. She has worked in environmental health since retiring from the United States Navy.
Gov. Cooper has appointed the following individuals to the Financial Literacy Council:
- Artie Nicholson Collins of Charlotte as a public member who represents employers in the financial services industry. Collins was the Vice President of Community Development Consultant for PNC Bank, spending nearly 20 years with the company before retiring in 2017.
- Keith A. Epstein of Hillsborough as a public member who represents employers in the financial services industry. Epstein is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Roxboro Savings Bank. He has taught, organized, and overseen programs in his community aimed on improving financial literacy.
- Stuart L. Mills of Pinehurst as a public member with experience in consumer advocacy or nonprofit financial education. Mills is the Executive Director of Partners for Children and Families, Inc. which is one of Moore County’s largest non-profit organizations. Mills has spent the last 6 years in the non-profit sector in Moore County focused on supporting families in the area.
- Kokou Nayo of Durham as a public member with experience in consumer advocacy or nonprofit financial education. Nayo is a Refugee Community Organizer for the Church World Service. She is also a member of the Durham City Recreation Advisory Commission.
Gov. Cooper has appointed the following individuals to the North Carolina Human Relations Commission:
- La’Tanta D. McCrimmon of Raleigh as the representative of the 13th Congressional District. McCrimmon works in the Office of the Governor as Director of Legislative Affairs. She previously served as Deputy Legislative Director for the Office of the Governor and as Deputy Director for Government Affairs for the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services.
- Kennis Earl Wilkins of Greenville as the representative of the 1st Congressional District. Wilkins is the CEO and Founder of Faith Works Community Services in Williamston and Raleigh. Wilkins also has over 30 years of experience in the insurance industry. He has previously served on the board of directors for Martin Community College and Elizabeth City State University.
Gov. Cooper has appointed the following individual to the North Carolina Interagency Council for Coordinating Homeless Programs:
- William David Rowe of Raleigh as a member at-large. Rowe is General Counsel and Director of Advocacy at the North Carolina Justice Center, a statewide nonprofit organization dedicated to ensuring economic justice for disadvantaged people and communities.
Gov. Cooper has appointed the following individual to the North Carolina Board of Landscape Architects:
- Melinda Coe Arthur of Wilmington as a landscape architect. Arthur is a Landscape Architect at Susan Hatchell Landscape and Park Design, that services both Raleigh and Wilmington in the planning and construction of public projects. Having over 20 years of experience, she has assisted in the landscape design and architecture in parks, on campuses, transit, and other public works. Arthur was president of the American Society of Landscape Architects in 2010.
Gov. Cooper has appointed the following individual to the North Carolina Board of Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselors:
- Dr. Levette Subraina Scott of Durham as a licensed clinical mental health counselor from the private sector. She is an Associate Professor in the Counselor Education Program at North Carolina Central University and she works as a part-time weekend therapist at Holly Hills Hospital in Raleigh.
Gov. Cooper has appointed the following individual chair of the North Carolina Military Affairs Commission:
- Major General Rodney O. Anderson of Fayetteville as chair. Before retiring from the US Army, General Anderson served for 33 years as a Field Artilleryman and General Officer, including deployments to both Grenada in Desert Storm and Afghanistan. He held several strategic assignments, culminating in his assignment as Deputy Commander and Acting Commander of 18th Airborne Corps and Fort Bragg. Anderson was originally appointed to the commission by Governor Cooper in 2019.
Gov. Cooper has appointed the following individual chair of the North Carolina Museum of Art Board of Trustees:
- Elizabeth G. Buck of Chapel Hill as chair. Buck is a trained art historian. Prior to this appointment, Buck chaired the Collections Committee for the board. Buck has also served on the acquisitions committee for the Ackland Art Museum in Chapel Hill as well as the boards of the Chapel Hill Woman’s Center and The Reach Projects in Blue Hill, Maine.
Gov. Cooper has appointed the following individual to the North Carolina Parks and Recreation Authority:
- Douglas M. Auer of Hickory as a member at-large. He is the owner of America Sales & Service, LLC, a sales, marketing, and business consulting agency. Auer serves on the City of Hickory’s Business Development Council as well as the Catawba Chamber of Commerce’s Legislative Agenda Task Force.
Gov. Cooper has appointed the following individual to the University of North Carolina Center for Public Media Board of Trustees:
- Seth Bennett of Charlotte as a member at-large. Bennett is the Chief Marketing Officer for Hornets Sports & Entertainment, where he manages the team brand, marketing, and several departments overseeing community engagement and events. Bennett also supervises the business operations of the Greensboro Swarm, the organization’s NBA G League franchise. Bennett brings more than 30 years of experience across sports and entertainment.
Gov. Cooper has appointed the following individual to the North Carolina State Health Coordinating Council:
- Dr. Jeffery E. Heck of Mills River as a member at-large. Heck recently retired after 10 years as CEO of the Mountain Area Health Education Center. Before taking over as CEO in 2012, Heck was the Director of the MAHEC Division of Family Medicine, where he also founded the Asheville Campus of the UNC School of Medicine.
Gov. Cooper has appointed the following individual to the Vance-Granville Community College Board of Trustees:
- Susan Lotz Nicholas of Henderson as a member at-large. Nicholas retired after 36 years with Bank of America in Henderson. Nicholas is an active and engaged member of the First United Methodist Church of Henderson, where she has taken a lead role in the youth ministry for more than 10 years.
