Governor Roy Cooper has proclaimed September as First Responders Appreciation Month to honor firefighters, law enforcement personnel, emergency operators and dispatchers, emergency medical technicians, hospital staff, search and rescue personnel and others who protect North Carolinians during emergencies.
“I’m grateful for our first responders who act quickly in life-threatening situations to help people when they need it most,” Governor Cooper said. “As we head into hurricane season and even face the possibility of some coastal flooding this weekend, I appreciate knowing our courageous first responders are always ready to save lives.”
Emergency services personnel play a critical role in keeping North Carolina communities safe and healthy year-round, especially during hurricane season. First responders provide information for how to prepare for storms and assist with storm recovery.
Governor Cooper continues to support initiatives that will provide more resources to first responders. The Governor’s proposed FY 2022-2023 budget included a component that aided first-time homebuyers with down payments and provided enhanced help for public school teachers, career firefighters, emergency medical services personnel or sworn law enforcement officers.
