Governor Cooper Announces Two Judicial Appointments

Today, Governor Roy Cooper announced two judicial appointments to North Carolina District and Special Superior Courts.

Today, Governor Roy Cooper announced two judicial appointments to North Carolina District and Special Superior Courts.

 

“These appointees are experienced leaders who have served their communities well over the years,” said Governor Cooper. “I’m thankful for their willingness to step up and serve on the bench.”

 

Keith Smith has been appointed to serve as District Court Judge in Judicial District 26, serving Mecklenburg County. He will fill the vacancy created by the election of the Honorable Donald Cureton to Superior Court. Smith is currently a Senior Associate County Attorney for Mecklenburg County. He previously served as an Assistant District Attorney for Rowan County and Court Improvement Project Coordinator for the Administrative Office of the Courts. Smith received his Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Master of Science at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and his Juris Doctor at North Carolina Central University Turner School of Law.

 

Jocelyn Mitnaul Mallette has been nominated to serve as Special Superior Court Judge with a designation to the Business Court. Mitnaul Mallette is currently a Partner at McGuireWoods LLP. Previously, she served as a Prosecutor and Special Assistant U.S. Attorney for the United States Air Force Judge Advocate General’s (JAG) Corps. Mitnaul Mallette received her Bachelor of Science at the United States Air Force Academy and her Juris Doctor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Law.
