Governor Josh Stein spent his 100th day in office in the same place that he spent his first full day as Governor and many days in between – western North Carolina.

Today, Governor Josh Stein released the following statement on FEMA’s decision to deny North Carolina’s request for an extension on the 100 percent match for Helene disaster recovery.

On the six-month anniversary of Hurricane Helene, Governor Josh Stein and Commissioner of Agriculture Steve Troxler sent a letter to US Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins, requesting that USDA approve a block grant to support the recovery efforts of farmers in Western North Carolina. 

Today, on the six-month anniversary of Hurricane Helene, Governor Josh Stein visited western North Carolina to honor the 106 lives lost and reaffirm his commitment to supporting the region’s full recovery.  

Yesterday, Governor Stein submitted the state’s proposed Action Plan for a $1.4 billion federal disaster recovery grant to address unmet housing, infrastructure, and economic revitalization needs in western North Carolina.

Today, FEMA granted Governor Stein’s request for an extension for state, tribal, and local governments, as well as some non-profit organizations, to apply for its Public Assistance program. The new deadline is April 7, 2025.
