Today Governor Josh Stein delivered a Fourth of July address celebrating America’s 250th birthday and highlighting the ways North Carolinians have helped America march toward a more perfect union. He spotlighted North Carolinians’ roles in the nation’s progress through the Revolutionary War, Civil War, women’s suffrage movement, and Civil Rights Movement – each of which cemented North Carolina’s claim to be the First in Freedom state.

Governor Stein made the following statement on signing House Bill 481:“This bill builds on House Bill 50’s progress to support law enforcement officers returning to work from retirement. Vacancies in law enforcement agencies have a real impact on public safety, and this benefit incentivizes experienced law enforcement officers to come back and serve their communities. I appreciate the legislature’s partnership in supporting law enforcement and keeping people safe.”
