Today Governor Stein and Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) Secretary Reid Wilson visited Old Fort to learn how new funding is strengthening the town’s long-term resilience. Last week, Governor Stein announced $270 million in grants that will support 58 separate water systems in 26 western North Carolina counties that were affected by Hurricane Helene.

Today Governor Josh Stein, First Lady Anna Stein, and Secretary of Adult Correction Leslie Dismukes joined the graduation ceremony of the Catawba Valley Community College Furniture Academy, a partnership among Catawba Valley Community College, the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction, Catawba Correctional Center, and more than 40 area furniture companies that prepares students for high-demand jobs in the furniture industry.

Today Governor Josh Stein announced that furniture manufacturer Coley Home will create 45 new jobs in Catawba County. The company will invest $9 million to expand its production capacity in the city of Claremont with a new manufacturing facility.“North Carolina is the furniture capital of the world, and Coley Home’s expansion reinforces that truth,” said Governor Josh Stein. “I’m delighted to see this homegrown company grow and thrive in Catawba County, validating the quality of our workforce and the excellence of our manufacturing.”

Today in Rocky Mount, Governor Josh Stein and NCDMV Commissioner Paul Tine joined the graduation ceremony of 149 new NCDMV Driver License Examiners – the largest graduating class ever. Governor Stein celebrated the new examiners' completion of Driver License Examiner Basic School and the service they will provide to drivers across North Carolina.

Today Governor Josh Stein announced Hoffman & Hoffman, Inc., a supplier of commercial HVAC systems and products, will create 131 jobs in Guilford County. The company will invest $40 million to expand its corporate headquarters and manufacturing operations in the city of Greensboro.

Today Governor Josh Stein announced that the State is accepting applications for a new disaster recovery program to repair or rebuild small rental properties in western North Carolina that were damaged or destroyed by Hurricane Helene.

Today Governor Josh Stein’s Council on Workforce and Apprenticeships released a report identifying 30 strategies designed to advance North Carolina’s workforce and expand access to good jobs with good wages. When implemented, these proposed strategies will help the state attain the 11 workforce goals that the Council recommended in June.

Today Governor Stein announced nearly $50 million in grants to support local governments in western North Carolina in their Hurricane Helene recovery efforts. The grants, which are administered by the Office of State Budget and Management, provide critical funding to repair, renovate, or replace storm-damaged infrastructure.
