Governor Josh Stein today announced that North Carolina’s Rural Infrastructure Authority (RIA) has approved 11 grant requests for local governments totaling $4,933,520. The grants include commitments to create a total of 673 jobs, 331 of which were previously announced. As a result of these grants, the additional private investment in these projects is expected to reach more than $1 billion.

Today Governor Josh Stein visited W.M. Irvin Elementary School in Concord to deliver school supplies collected by the Governor’s Office during the annual Governor’s School Supply Drive. During back-to-school season, Governor Stein is also highlighting the state budget’s investments in raising teacher pay and expanding programs that improve student outcomes.
Today VolunteerNC announced that its AmeriCorps NC program received more than $13.2 million in funding from AmeriCorps, the federal agency for national service and volunteerism. “Whether it’s mentoring students, helping communities recover from disaster, or reducing barriers to medical access, AmeriCorps Volunteers are making a difference in North Carolinians’ lives,” said Governor Josh Stein. “These funds will help 600 more Volunteers meet North Carolina’s urgent needs while gaining skills and experience for the future.

Today Governor Josh Stein vetoed House Bill 958 and urged North Carolinians to call on their legislators to protect their right to vote. During a “Protect Our Vote” event at the Executive Mansion, Governor Stein was joined by North Carolina Senate Minority Leader Sydney Batch, North Carolina House Minority Leader Robert Reives, Rev. James Gailliard, and North Carolina A&T student Shia Rozier, who underscored the way this legislation would undermine people’s right to vote.
Governor Stein Announces $1 Billion Expansion for Prysmian’s Claremont Facility, Adding 385 New Jobs
Today Governor Josh Stein announced Prysmian, a leading provider of solutions for energy and digital connections, will add 385 new jobs in Catawba County. The company says it will invest more than $1 billion as it expands its fiber and glass manufacturing operations. “This billion-dollar investment is more proof that North Carolina is leading the way on innovation and job creation,” said Governor Josh Stein. “Companies understand the value of our highly skilled manufacturing workforce that helps to power their strategic growth.”
Today Governor Stein signed four bills into law.Governor Stein made the following statement on signing Senate Bill 445: “North Carolina is growing rapidly, and the cost of housing is increasing. We need to build more housing units of all types to drive down rents and mortgages. This bill cuts red tape to help produce more houses and apartments and deliver results for North Carolinians. It also makes it easier for families to install solar panels or battery systems to save on their utility bills.”

Today during National Farmers Market Week, Governor Josh Stein and Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Dev Sangvai visited the Durham Farmers’ Market to highlight the SUN Bucks program, which provides nutritious food for more than a million North Carolina children throughout the summer. While private philanthropies have stepped in during past years to help the state cover its share to activate the federal program, this year’s budget includes state funding to operate SUN Bucks in the summer of 2027.
