Today Governor Josh Stein joined WakeMed in Garner to celebrate the groundbreaking of its whole-person health campus and highlight the need for sustained mental health investments to keep North Carolinians healthy and safe. This campus includes a 150-bed mental health and well-being hospital as well as a 45-bed acute care hospital.  
Today Governor Josh Stein highlighted the stories of Medicaid patients and providers while calling an extra session of the North Carolina General Assembly on November 17, 2025, to fund Medicaid. Governor Stein was joined by disability advocates Demi Eckhoff and Betsy MacMichael and Dr. Karen Smith, all of whom shared the impact of Medicaid on their lives.
This week, Governor Josh Stein and NC Museum of Natural Sciences’ Paleontologist Eric Lund hosted a press conference for a contingent of kid correspondents and aspiring scientists from area grade schools on the discovery of a new tyrannosaur species – the Nanotyrannus. With research conducted by North Carolina scientists, the groundbreaking announcement has turned decades of dinosaur debate on its head.

Today Governor Josh Stein announced that North Carolina will celebrate “Employ A Veteran Week” during November 10-15 with a variety of events being held statewide to help connect veterans with jobs and other services.  “Veterans and their families bring invaluable skills and experience to North Carolina and to all kinds of organizations,” said Governor Josh Stein. “As we strive to be America’s most military-friendly state, we are committed to supporting veterans’ transition to good jobs in the civilian workforce as they find new ways to serve.”  
Today Governor Josh Stein announced a $50 million Broadband Recovery Program that will provide grants to help internet service providers rebuild and repair broadband infrastructure destroyed by Hurricane Helene. Impacted internet service providers are invited to apply for funding.
This week, Governor Josh Stein led a 51-person delegation to the Southeast United States (SEUS)/Japan Annual Joint Meeting in Tokyo, Japan, reaffirming North Carolina’s strong partnership with Japan and furthering the work to recruit more good-paying jobs to the state. North Carolina was the host southeastern state for the past two years. The delegation included Department of Commerce Secretary Lee Lilley, EDPNC CEO Christopher Chung, and North Carolina business leaders.  
Today Governor Josh Stein announced that the State of North Carolina will grant $10 million to local food banks across the state. The State is joined by AmeriHealth Caritas, which will give $5 million, The David & Nicole Tepper Foundation, which will accelerate $2.5 million from a previously announced $10 million gift, and other donors. These announcements come as food banks prepare for an influx of need following the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA)’s decision to suspend the distribution of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits for November.
