Today Governor Josh Stein and Lieutenant Governor Rachel Hunt joined state and elected local officials in volunteering at the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina as federal food assistance continues to stall. During his visit, Governor Stein presented a $3.34 million check from the State of North Carolina, part of his ongoing initiative to surge public and private donations to food banks.
Today Governor Josh Stein and North Carolina Department of Military and Veterans Affairs Secretary Jocelyn Mallette joined Greenville Mayor PJ Connelly and Pitt County veterans to celebrate Veterans Day. Governor Stein honored those who have served in the United States armed forces and reaffirmed his commitment to supporting North Carolina’s veterans. 
The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) today announced extended hours for NCServes and the launch of AskMeNC, two initiatives that expand access to care for North Carolina’s veterans and their families.
Governor Josh Stein has directed the Governor’s Council on Workforce and Apprenticeships to make recommendations to effectively implement the newly created Workforce Pell grants to help North Carolina students take advantage of additional career training opportunities. The Council includes representatives of key stakeholders, including the North Carolina Department of Commerce, North Carolina Community College System, the University of North Carolina System, and North Carolina Independent Colleges and Universities.  
Today Governor Josh Stein announced that organizations across North Carolina have stepped up to donate nearly $4 million to fight hunger in North Carolina. These donations follow last week’s announcement that the State of North Carolina and other partners would grant $18 million to fight hunger across the state.
This week, Governor Josh Stein and NC Museum of Natural Sciences’ Paleontologist Eric Lund hosted a press conference for a contingent of kid correspondents and aspiring scientists from area grade schools on the discovery of a new tyrannosaur species – the Nanotyrannus. With research conducted by North Carolina scientists, the groundbreaking announcement has turned decades of dinosaur debate on its head.  
Today Governor Josh Stein highlighted the stories of Medicaid patients and providers while calling an extra session of the North Carolina General Assembly on November 17, 2025, to fund Medicaid. Governor Stein was joined by disability advocates Demi Eckhoff and Betsy MacMichael and Dr. Karen Smith, all of whom shared the impact of Medicaid on their lives.
Today Governor Josh Stein joined WakeMed in Garner to celebrate the groundbreaking of its whole-person health campus and highlight the need for sustained mental health investments to keep North Carolinians healthy and safe. This campus includes a 150-bed mental health and well-being hospital as well as a 45-bed acute care hospital.  
Today Governor Josh Stein hosted a roundtable discussion in Greensboro to hear from advocates, faith leaders, practitioners, and patients about the burden of living with medical debt and how relief aids North Carolina families and the economy.
Today Governor Josh Stein announced that North Carolina will celebrate “Employ A Veteran Week” during November 10-15 with a variety of events being held statewide to help connect veterans with jobs and other services.  “Veterans and their families bring invaluable skills and experience to North Carolina and to all kinds of organizations,” said Governor Josh Stein. “As we strive to be America’s most military-friendly state, we are committed to supporting veterans’ transition to good jobs in the civilian workforce as they find new ways to serve.”
