Today, Governor Stein announced he has signed one bill into law.Governor Stein made the following statement on signing House Bill 433:  “North Carolina is home to the second-largest rural population in the country. This bill strengthens rural North Carolina by enabling the Department of Information Technology to continue building critical rural broadband capacity and supporting the Department of Environmental Quality’s work to build more resilient water infrastructure. I am grateful to the General Assembly for sending it to me.”  
Today Governor Josh Stein and Assistant Secretary of Rural Economic Development Reginald Speight visited the town of Edenton to showcase the state’s partnership with local governments to expand economic opportunity in rural North Carolina.  
Today Governor Stein released the following statement on the latest budget negotiations:  “It is past time that our teachers, state law enforcement officers, and state employees get a meaningful pay raise and recognition for their service to the people of North Carolina. Today’s announcement is only a framework, but if the final budget actually includes real salary increases, it would be welcome. The proof, however, will be in the pudding.  
Today Governor Josh Stein announced the following judicial appointments:  Regina Parker to the Superior Court for Judicial District 2, serving Beaufort, Hyde, Martin, Tyrrell, and Washington counties. Parker is filling the vacancy created after the Honorable Wayland Sermons retired.  
Today Governor Josh Stein announced that North Carolina set a record for tourist spending in 2025, with travelers spending more than $37.2 billion on trips to and within the state, surpassing the previous record of $36.7 billion set in 2024. 
In celebration of Public Service Recognition Week, Governor Josh Stein attended the North Carolina Office of State Human Resources’ Public Service Summit to thank North Carolina’s 77,000 state employees and highlight their value in creating a safer, stronger North Carolina. 
This week Governor Josh Stein is making the case for investing in North Carolina at the U.S. Department of Commerce’s SelectUSA Investment Summit. Yesterday Governor Stein participated in the Governors Attracting Global Investment panel, highlighting North Carolina's competitive advantage for foreign investment.

During Hurricane Preparedness Week (May 3-9), Governor Josh Stein and emergency management officials are encouraging all North Carolinians to take steps to prepare for hurricanes and tropical storms. The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 through November 30.
