Governor Cooper Signs State Disaster Declaration for the Town of West Jefferson Affected by Flooding
On Tuesday, June 18, 2024, Governor Roy Cooper signed a state disaster declaration for the Town of West Jefferson in Ashe County that suffered damages from a significant flood event on May 26. The declaration makes additional assistance available to the town.“This state disaster declaration will help the people of West Jefferson recover from the damages of flooding and help ensure they have necessary resources available,” said Governor Cooper.
Today, Governor Roy Cooper visited The Early Learning Center Preschool in Charlotte and visited several classrooms to see strong child care in action as well as learning and growing through engaging activities. The Governor was joined by President and CEO of Child Care Resources Inc. Janet Singerman and local officials as he highlighted the urgent funding need for early childhood education and child care. James M. Pleasants Company Inc. (JMP), a major distributor and sales representative for HVAC, plumbing, and other industrial equipment, will consolidate its Greensboro operations into a new facility, creating 40 jobs over five years, according to the company. JMP will invest $30 million in Guilford County.
