At the first meeting of the President’s Commission on Combating Drug Addiction and the Opioid Crisis, Governor Roy Cooper urged common sense strategies for the federal government to help combat the opioid crisis. In North Carolina, unintentional opioid, heroin, and fentanyl related deaths increased 816 percent from 1999 - 2015. Almost 10,000 North Carolinians have died from unintentional opioid overdoses since 1999.

Today, Governor Roy Cooper signed an executive order declaring a Type 1 disaster in Sampson County and the contiguous counties of Bladen, Cumberland, Duplin, Harnett, Johnston, Pender, and Wayne.

Governor Roy Cooper has received the U.S. Small Business Administration disaster declaration he requested to help residents and business owners in southeastern North Carolina recover from the straight line winds and severe storms that struck Sampson County on May 29.

Governor Roy Cooper today announced eight more appointments to various state commissions and boards, including a new chair for the North Carolina Partnership for Children Board of Directors, which oversees Smart Start programs and services.

Governor Roy Cooper has appointed a new judge to preside over District Court in Vance and Warren counties. Benjamin Hunter will serve as a District Court Judge for Judicial District 9B in in Vance and Warren Counties.

Governor Cooper appointed eight members to the North Carolina Governor’s Crime Commission this week. The new members were sworn in by Chief Justice Mark Martin at yesterday's Commission meeting.
