Today, Governor Roy Cooper announced donations of $15.5 million made to the NC Disaster Relief Fund are going to the North Carolina Community Foundation to help with Hurricane Helene long-term recovery and unmet needs.“We are so grateful for this outpouring of generosity toward the people of western North Carolina,” Governor Cooper said. “Recovering from Hurricane Helene will be a marathon and each and every donation helps.”
Today, Governor Roy Cooper volunteered at the Asheville Buncombe Community Christian Ministry (ABCCM) Servant Leadership Center and thanked volunteer organizations involved in relief efforts. The Governor was joined by Asheville Buncombe Community Christian Ministry Chief Operating Officer Brandon Wilson, United Way of Asheville and Buncombe County President and CEO Dan Leroy and leaders from various volunteer organizations across North Carolina.
This week, Governor Roy Cooper will lead a delegation of state and local leaders and officials to Washington, D.C. to present a request for $25.57 billion in federal aid to support the recovery process from Hurricane Helene in Western North Carolina. While in Washington, the Governor will meet with President Biden, Senator Thom Tillis, Senator Ted Budd, Congressman Chuck Edwards and other federal officials.
Today, Governor Roy Cooper urged Republican legislators to provide more much-needed funding for Western North Carolina recovery instead of spending millions of taxpayer dollars on private school vouchers for the wealthy when they return to session next Tuesday. Legislators are considering funneling $463 million in taxpayer money to unaccountable private schools while North Carolina faces significant recovery needs and is forecasted to experience a budget shortfall due to tax cuts pushed for by Republican leadership.

Today, Governor Roy Cooper traveled to Grandfather Mountain and Grandfather Mountain State Park in Avery County to highlight the importance of supporting Western North Carolina’s tourism industry in the wake of Hurricane Helene.
Officials from Taiwan today visited North Carolina to present a donation of $300,000 to help with recovery from Hurricane Helene. The generous donation will go to the North Carolina Disaster Relief Fund, established by Governor Roy Cooper to encourage donations to help communities recover from unprecedented damage caused by Helene.
Today, Governor Cooper visited Green River Cove in Polk County to assess storm damage to the Green River and surrounding areas, meet with local officials and speak with those impacted by the storm. In the afternoon, the Governor joined First Lady of the United States Jill Biden at a World Central Kitchen site in Asheville where they packed and served food and thanked volunteers. This morning, the Governor signed Senate Bill 743 into law, which allocates more than $600 million in Helene disaster relief and recovery funds.
