This year, Governor Stein is highlighting some of his most memorable moments from his first year in office.
Today Governor Stein and Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) Secretary Reid Wilson visited Old Fort to learn how new funding is strengthening the town’s long-term resilience. Last week, Governor Stein announced $270 million in grants that will support 58 separate water systems in 26 western North Carolina counties that were affected by Hurricane Helene.
Governor Josh Stein today announced $270 million in awards to repair and strengthen the resilience of water systems in areas affected by Hurricane Helene. The awards from the NC Department of Environmental Quality will fund 58 water, wastewater and septic system projects in 26 western North Carolina counties. North Carolina is the first state affected by Hurricane Helene to make awards provided through the 2025 State Revolving Fund Supplemental Appropriations for Hurricanes Helene and Milton and the Hawai’i Wildfires.
Today Governor Stein joined the North Carolina Department of Military and Veterans Affairs and the North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources to induct three exceptional military veterans – Sgt. Patricia A. Harris, Maj. Gen. Elizabeth D. Austin, and Maj. Gen. Harvey D. Williams Sr. – into the North Carolina Military Hall of Firsts. The annual ceremony acknowledges remarkable individuals whose military service has brought meaningful recognition and distinction to themselves, their families, and the state of North Carolina.
Today Governor Stein encouraged North Carolinians to be cautious on the roads as winter weather impacts parts of the state.
Today Governor Josh Stein met with local law enforcement from New Hanover and Brunswick Counties to learn how the State can better support their efforts to keep people safe. This roundtable continues Governor Stein’s push for a comprehensive public safety package that not only ensures appropriate responses to crime but also focuses on preventing crime from occurring in the first place.  
Today Governor Josh Stein and NC Department of Commerce Secretary Lee Lilley visited a completed home rehabilitation project in Fairview to highlight Renew NC’s work to repair and rebuild homes damaged by Hurricane Helene.
Today Governor Josh Stein issued the following statement:“Public safety is the top priority for all of us in government – and that means fighting crime, not stoking fear or causing division. We should all focus on arresting violent criminals and drug traffickers. Unfortunately, that’s not always what we have seen with ICE and Border Patrol Agents in Chicago and elsewhere around the country.  The vast majority of people they have detained have no criminal convictions, and some are American citizens.  
Today Governor Josh Stein and Commissioner of Insurance Mike Causey called on Congress to pass H.R. 3161, the Preventing Environmental Hazards Act of 2025, a bill co-introduced by Congressman Greg Murphy (NC-03). H.R. 3161 would create more proactive support for coastal homeowners whose homes are at risk of collapse. In recent weeks, severe weather events have caused homes in Buxton and Rodanthe to collapse into the ocean.
